Lamborghini has entered the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with a plan that is completely out of the norm. They have joined forces with a yet-to-be-named artist to create a tangible item - called the Space Key - that is connected to digital artwork using an QR code.

It's an un-fungible token
The non-fungible token (NFT) trend has swept the world of gaming, however, now even premium automakers are joining in on the fun. Lamborghini is a glitzy automobile maker, has revealed its first NFT project: a collection of five digital artworks centered around space and linked to a physical object known as the Space Key. The tokens are based off a piece of carbon fiber composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a joint research program.
NFTs are unique identifiers that are recorded on a distributed ledger known as Blockchain and tied to a digital asset, such as pictures or music. Nike, Samsung and Reddit are already working with NFTs. Twitter has recently added the ability to display their favourite NFTs on their profile photos using hexa-shaped frames.
The Space Time Memory NFTs are sold via an online auction and the price of each is a mystery at the moment. The company has said it will provide more details in the coming days and weeks including the name of the artist behind the Space Key, digital artwork and the auction house.
It's an artwork

Each NFT has more than 600 million pixels and as you zoom, a myriad of details are revealed, such as the firing sequence of the V12 engines or different milling patterns of the transmission cog wheels.
The physical part of the Space Key is a piece composed of carbon fiber composite that was shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes in 2019. The Space Key is cut into five physical objects called "space key" and linked to the digital art via an QR-code that is located on the back. The digital artwork is created by the renowned artist Fabian Oefner and shows a Lamborghini Ultimae hovering above a photograph of Earth.
The first auction for the art inspired by space will take place at the Lunar New Year on the 1st of February. The auction will last for 75 hours and 50 mins that's the same time it took Apollo 11 leave Earth and enter orbit. Details about the artwork and the auction will be released over the next few weeks. For the artwork itself it is comprised of an unexploded view of the Aventador that was constructed from a variety of photographs.
